PROBABLE FUTURES: What is the probable future if the situation continues?

  • Students will enjoy an interactive teaching tool in the classroom and use it to its fullest potential to learn more about biology, chemistry, and environmental science.

  • Urban aquaponics farming will become more popular as it has more benefits than traditional farming

  • People will start buying and eating more local and organic food

 

PREFERRED FUTURE: What preferred future do you envision? What do you and others want to have happen? Can you develop a plan that leads in the direction of your preferred future?

  • The aquaponics system will be utilized as a platform to scientific inquiry (learning about the biogeochemical cycles and how to conduct water quality testing.)

  • Student will grow food in the system and use it as an opportunity to learn about food sustainability and Hawaii’s food security/self-sufficiency problem.

  • Students will learn from my lesson about what aquaponics is, how it works, the benefits/disadvantages of the system, how to make a system, and how to obtain water quality data.

  • Students will be inspired and attempt to create their own aquaponic system at home.

  • Aquaponic systems are incorporated school wide and used for school lunches
